A JB date, planned for you
Jet ski, cake and a sunset dinner: a Saturday date in JB
Skip the mall. Senibong Cove is 15 to 20 minutes from the Causeway, and one afternoon here has what a good date needs: something sweet, a ride across the water, a sunset and dinner by the water. Come over after lunch, head home after dinner. Here's the plan, stop by stop.

The plan
-
3:30pm
Cake and coffee at Vanilla Bean
A small café in the apartments on the road into Senibong Cove, known for its waffles (try the Earl Grey) and its cakes: strawberry, carrot, pistachio cheesecake.
Open 9am–11pm Friday to Sunday, 9am–7pm Monday to Thursday. The cakes sell out fast, so don't leave it late.
-
5:30pm
A jet ski ride at golden hour
From Senibong Cove Marina out past the RTS Link bridge to the R&F towers and back, with a guide riding alongside. Life jackets are included, and so are the photos and videos. The late ride gets the softest light; the last one leaves at 6pm.
Package A, 30 minutes: RM450 for the two of you on one jet ski, or RM350 each on your own.
-
6:50pm
Sunset on the boardwalk
Walk the waterfront by the marina. In November and December the sun sets over the Strait of Johor at about 6:50 to 7pm. It's free, and it's the photo that gets posted.
-
7:15pm
Dinner on the marina
Roberto's, a few steps along the waterfront: Italian, with floor-to-ceiling windows on the last of the light. Book a table for the weekend.
For halal food: Selera Senibong Seafood (SSS), by the water at Kampung Senibong, for black pepper crab and salted egg prawns.
Also at Senibong Cove: Harvests Bar & Grill, La Olla, Sho Yakitori Bar, Muara Steamboat & Grill, Chang 9 and Udders Ice Cream.
One jet ski or two?
One double, if she'd rather hold onYou drive, she rides behind you. RM450 for the two of you.
Two singles, if she's the outdoorsy typeYou each drive your own. RM700 for both jet skis.
There's one pink jet ski, at the same price. Whoever books a time first gets it. Book with the pink one ticked

When to cross the Causeway
Saturday: the easier day
Cross around 2 to 3pm and head back right after dinner, by about 10pm. After 10:30pm the queue builds again. From the Causeway it's about 12 km to Senibong Cove, 15 to 20 minutes' drive.
Sunday: take the train, or stay late
Sunday evening is the slowest way home of the week: from about 3pm to 10pm the queue back to Singapore can take two to three hours. Either cross back after about 11pm, or take the KTM Shuttle Tebrau: five minutes from Woodlands to JB Sentral, S$5 out and RM5 back. Take a 1:45pm or 3pm train over and the 9:30pm or 10:45pm (the last) home. Tickets open a month ahead on the KTMB app and weekend trains sell out, so book early. From JB Sentral, Senibong Cove is about 10 minutes by Grab.
Busier dates
Singapore's school holidays (21 November to 31 December) and long weekends, like Deepavali on 8 and 9 November, make every queue longer.
Before you set off, check the checkpoint cameras on OneMotoring.
Good to know
- Book the ride ahead. The last one leaves at 6pm.
- Bad weather or haze? We move your ride for free.
- You'll get a little wet on the jet ski, so bring a change of clothes for dinner.
- For halal food, Selera Senibong Seafood is by the water at Kampung Senibong.
